Fashion Incubator – CFDAI 2.0

It’s tough to be a new designer. There are a million problems to deal with but you’re out of school, so you can’t turn to a professor for help at every step. Combined with the down economy and the changing marketplace, what hope is there for someone trying to independently get their own label off the ground? Enter the CFDA Fashion Incubator, a project sponsored and mentored and contributed to by a fairly large number of concerned parties in the industry. The Incubator provides most importantly mentorships, most obviously visibility, and most enticingly cheap studio space, to a class of twelve emerging designers every two years.

Timo Weiland – Fall 2012 – A Casual Challenge

Maximum style, minimum effort. That goal is the holy grail for a lot of fashion designers. Nobody wants to look sloppy, and good casualwear does not equal sloppy. Consumers desire to look good but to have the clothes that get them there to be easy to wear. In their second Lincoln Center runway show, New York City’s own Timo Weiland took giant strides towards achieving that goal and capturing the prize of that being for what their brand is known.

Timo Weiland – Spring 2012 Review – Moving Onto The Runway

Timo Weiland’s Spring 2012 was in general a good collection but it had an uncharacteristic feel to it compared to their very sharp presentations of the past two seasons. There were many strong pieces and the team’s growth as designers surely continued, but the collection had a few pieces that felt flat and disconnected from the rest of the collection. An 60’s style baseball jacket and a men’s floral shirt and matching short both felt forced, and a small handful of other pieces lacked the original spark that has vaulted the young designers to their white hot status.

Timo Weiland – Designer Feature

“The three of us are going on about our creative choices every minute, about what works what doesn’t. We might even be working on another season and say this is great for next Fall or this is great for Spring.” The clothes that Timo Weiland, Alan Eckstein, and Donna Kang create strongly capture your attention whenever you see them, but it’s not always easy to pinpoint what has drawn your eye. Their distinctive designs are definitely a team effort.
