Emerson’s Cool Collected Girls

Jackie Fraser Swan’s Fall 2013 collection continued her Emerson brand’s parade of head on her shoulders cool girl staples. It’s a young lively assortment with great color choices, displaying interesting use of patterns and leather. Good fits for environments from classroom to office to cocktail reception. She has a good habit of framing or presenting the neck and shoulders very well.

Emerson – The Outsider’s View

In full disclosure, I have to mention that I am very fond of Jackie Fraser Swan, the designer of Emerson. We speak fairly often and I think she’s one of the bright young lights in fashion that I am really pulling for. That is why I was briefly concerned with a small section of her Spring 2013 collection as it came down the runway at Lincoln Center. Mrs. Fraser-Swan drew upon the 1970s as her inspiration, and a few of the looks were too literal. Inspiration is often tricky for a young designer; out of affection for a person, place, or time, they copy instead of create. Fortunately, this was only the case with a very few of her creations, and the majority of the collection was fun, flirty, creative, and very aggressive.

Emerson – Fall 2012 – To Alter and Invent

Steeped in the spirit and history of New England, Emerson’s designer Jackie Fraser Swan is, if there is such a thing, a conservative risk taker. She loves to alter and invent, but is by no means a wild child. With her collections there is always a sense of the classic torn asunder. She combines the shapes and styles that the fabrics she is drawn to suggest to her with a unique take on staple fashion shapes and styles.

Emerson – Spring 2012 Review – Whisper, Don’t Shout

Boston-based designer Jackie Fraser Swan has a beautiful collection that includes two cute as a button daughters and a large handsome husband; her debut collection at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week was a strong showing as well. She displayed not only a solid design sense but a mature understanding of how to allow the wearer of her creations to make an impact without being garish. The idea of dressing the counter culture rebel has been well explored and experimented in so it can be difficult to create something novel. Mrs. Fraser Swan succeed in her attempt for the most part primarily because she let her subtle detailing and interesting fabric combinations do the work for her.
