Logan Neitzel – Spring 2012 Review – Rock & Recluse

Logan Neitzel continues to refine his vision with his “Recluse Collection,” Spring 2012 ready-to-wear. Past collections have mixed leathers, feathers, silks and wools, and the mix of textures continues here with the addition of macramé and burnt-out silk dresses. “Confident, artistic, not afraid to take risks,” that is how Logan describes the women that inspired the Recluse style, and how many would describe the designer himself.

Logan Neitzel – Designer Dossier

Photo editorials are usually styled by, well, stylists. However, we at modaCYCLE like to see what the designers would do if they styled a shoot themselves. We call this a Designer Dossier.

Logan Neitzel – Fall 2011

story by Dana Varon

Logan Neizel is known for a lot of things; his Project Runway stint, his boyish good looks, his rock and roll semblance– well, he is all of that, but has moved on way past his Project Runway days, though he feels it was where he was supposed to be then. Now he shows what he can do with leather showcasing neck and wrist cuffs with long, hanging fringes, bandeau, little mini skirts solo and also with attached swatches of long, flowing black or red chiffon, He additionally adds a pop of color with red pieces of leather patches on black leggings (available in all black too) and a red/black stringy yarn type throw-over. Neitzel told me of his influence when he lived in Seattle seeing music and listening to rock which seems to creep into his designs in a modern way and garner his attitude towards leather– which he feels should become your own like an old hole-y rock tee that just gets better and better with wear. So true. This louche look is evident in his pieces, including his own waist-dangling fox-tail. It was also evident in the punk soundtrack backstage and incense infused air out front. These are pieces anyone can pick up to add their own edge – no matter what they’re wearing. Continue reading “Logan Neitzel – Fall 2011”

10 Designers To Watch In 2011

modaCYCLE recently hosted a showcase party for a group of emerging designers whom we believe showed the most promise during the most recent New York Fashion Week back in September.

modaCYCLE recently hosted a showcase party for a group of emerging designers whom we believe showed the most promise during the most recent New York Fashion Week back in September. It was a chill vibe affair held in the beautiful Italian furniture showroom Natuzzi Soho (101 Greene Street). Each designer who participated showed three looks throughout the evening. Our intention was to put emerging designers with viable collections in the same room with boutique owners and buyers from retail chains, and it seemed to go quite well. Logan Neitzel – Spring 2011 – New York

Logan Neitzel doesn’t mind getting his hands dirty. His desire to create precisely what he sees in his mind’s eye leads him to deep involvement in almost every aspect of his work. Of course at this stage of his career he still must do most things by himself.

Logan Neitzel doesn’t mind getting his hands dirty. His desire to create precisely what he sees in his mind’s eye leads him to deep involvement in almost every aspect of his work. Of course at this stage of his career he still must do most things by himself. As we viewed his collection together I got the sense from speaking with him though, that might not change all that much as he moves up the ranks of the fashion industry. “Its hard because I can’t hit minimums with factories, so right now I’m just building that until I can hit those minimums and get exactly what I want, but its definitely frustrating.” Yet his choices in fabrics, skins, and textures are so integral to his designs that he hand selects and treats each piece of leather he uses, even using the placement of imperfections as a design element. A designer who does not accept the trap, because I can not do things precisely the way I want I won’t do them at all, usually ends up staying very committed to the critical details when they can finally create everything they dream up.
