Reinvention is critical for artists. The same way fashion designers turn out new collections every few months, other artists also work in regenerative cycles. Some show new work every few months, some on far less\u00a0regular\u00a0schedules. Call it “ready to hang,” perhaps. When I find my work stalling, I go looking for inspiration; in galleries, in nature, in conversation, in films (I find “My Dinner With Andre” is singularly dynamic for the task). This week in New York is a great opportunity for anyone who needs a reboot. It is the contemporary art week. Artists and galleries from around the world come to New York to show their wares. There is literally too much to see.<\/p>\n

Last night Adrianna Favero and I had the opportunity to preview the Fountain Art Fair<\/a> at The Armory. Roughly 70 booths are displaying the work of hundreds of artists from as far away as Korea, Japan, Spain, and South Brooklyn. It is at The 69th Regiment Armory, 68 Lexington Avenue (at 25th\/26th Streets). This particular show is being co-sponsored by Art For Progress<\/a>, an interesting non-profit supporting emerging artists.<\/p>\n

There are about 11 big shows like this one going on all around the city. A key one is Scope<\/a>, going on at the show piers (the end of 57th Street across the West Side Highway, where fashion folk usually go for Coterie). Gothamist has many photos from Scope in an article posted Thursday night<\/a>. Lots to see, go out and take it in….\u00a0\u00a0and for God’s sake, buy some art!<\/strong><\/p>\n
