Kaelen – Fall 2011

It is always nice to see a collection that you would happily place, in its entirety, right into your closet. Kaelen Farncomb’s fall 2011 is one of those. Nestled in its amiable pseudo barn setting stocked with bull, wood, and whiskey, you could almost swear you are out of the city and somewhere cozy and country.

Her chunky cable and braid knit oversized sweaters in grainy greys make you want to crawl right into them, paired with a pant that resembles wool tights and a long flowy pleated skirt fits in quite perfectly. A watercolor print dress bearing blots of bright red and blue with splattered black adds understated chic, and a puff pleat short is a fun alternative. Add a side-fringed pant in muted saddle, and suede dress with a mélange of thick hanging fringes, and you are building a unique but robust selection for every woman’s everyday. Refurbished vintage boots painted with bits of silver, green and brown paint, which will also be on sale as part of the collection, round it out along with big silver rings on multiple fingers. To complete the lazy but lovely look, one might fashion your hair like Ms. Farncomb’s models, with a lazy low sided braid or some tight side cornrows. Throw over her mustard coat reminiscing thick felt with the most dreamy sea blue/green collar, and you are set for fall and winter.  Influenced by watching her mom get dressed for special events as a kid, one stand-out outfit that she recalls had a blast of neon silk flowers, this may be deeper than she thinks or is willing to divulge, her subconscious at work, especially with her all lime floor length silk dress– whatever it is, we are glad it worked its way in. Yet another of our 10 Designers To Watch In 2011 hitting a home run.
