Blumarine – Spring 2011 – Milan

One of the modaCYCLE team’s favorite designers, Anna Molinari, titled her Spring 2011 Blumarine collection “butterfly wings.” The editor of modaCYCLE’s German Edition (modacycle.de), Boris Marberg, was in Italy for Milan Moda Donna and photographed the show.

Fratelli Rossetti Preview

I look forward to checking out the new Fratelli Rossetti accessories every season. The design sensibility, attention to detail, and strong workmanship are always impressive. This time three things caught my attention: two pairs of boots that are actually three, and a handbag with many faces.

Italian clothing manufacturer Corneliani sent down a romantic and charming collection for Spring 2011 Milan.  The company is known for their impeccable Italian tailoring.  The show was held in the luxuriant cloisters of the 16th century Leonardo Da Vinci National Museum of Science and Technology.

Les Hommes, Fall 2010 Collection at Milan Moda Uomo

The expert tailoring and fit is still there, it is still luxury clothing, but this show felt like a rehash of what they’re already selling.

With few exceptions, what we’re seeing in Milan and Berlin so far this season looks safe, and Les Hommes designers Tom Notte and Bart Vandebosch, despite being wild enough to have full gold chrome suits on the runway, seem to be playing it safe. Vivienne Westwood, Fall 2010 Collection at Milan Moda Uomo

The good witch of punk fashion, Dame Vivienne Westwood, made a runway show that talked visually about global warming, and the effects it is already starting to have on cultures around the world.

This is why we’re out here. This show is why modaCYCLE exists. Here is a storyteller showing a collision of fantasy, reality, and optimism. The wisdom and intelligence and style were all there in this show. Continue reading “Vivienne Westwood, Fall 2010 Collection at Milan Moda Uomo”

Frankie Morello, Fall 2010 Collection at Milan Moda Uomo

Italian football is a summer game, and this is an autumn-winter collection, but this is Frankie Morello. Their web site barks and there are vampires on the runway, so pretty much all bets are off for these guys playing by the rules.

Maurizio Modica and Pierfrancesco Gigliotti’s Frankie Morello menswear show at Via Palermo (their usual spot) was a great “spettacolo.” The theme was vampires and football (world championship soccer). Continue reading “Frankie Morello, Fall 2010 Collection at Milan Moda Uomo”

Carlo Pignatelli Outside, Fall 2010 Collection at Milan Moda Uomo

This show opened Milan Moda Uomo and went right for the jugular on a classic winter image. My first impression was that this was deeply influenced by the idea of a Russian winter presented in the film Doctor Zhivago, and reflects winter in the time of the revolution against the Tsarist autocracy.

Carlo Pignatelli Outside is the outerwear line produced by one of the world’s great designers of men’s formalwear.

This show opened Milan Moda Uomo and went right for the jugular on a classic winter image. My first impression was that this was deeply influenced by the idea of a Russian winter presented in the film Doctor Zhivago, and reflects winter in the time of the revolution against the Tsarist autocracy. In fact, the music played at the beginning of the show was the overture from that classic motion picture, an odd yet harmonious blend of subtle military themes with folk music. Check out the brown leather shirt worn over a black turtleneck and under a dark sport coat in the last shot. Looks great, but it is wearable? Continue reading “CoSTUME NATIONAL, Fall 2010 Collection at Milan Moda Uomo”

John Varvatos, Spring 2010 Collection at Milan Moda Uomo

The John Varvatos Spring-Summer 2010 Collection was a series of clean cut, soft garments, and silky looks in black, red, silver, grey-blue, and yellow. Refined fits were on display, especially in the classically-inspired coats and jackets. The addition of light scarves and shades to several looks projected a “too cool” vibe. Wearing looks from this line will surely boost the appearance of confidence for young businessmen on the move.
