Fashion Incubator – CFDAI 2.0

It’s tough to be a new designer. There are a million problems to deal with but you’re out of school, so you can’t turn to a professor for help at every step. Combined with the down economy and the changing marketplace, what hope is there for someone trying to independently get their own label off the ground? Enter the CFDA Fashion Incubator, a project sponsored and mentored and contributed to by a fairly large number of concerned parties in the industry. The Incubator provides most importantly mentorships, most obviously visibility, and most enticingly cheap studio space, to a class of twelve emerging designers every two years.

Timo Weiland – Fall 2012 – A Casual Challenge

Maximum style, minimum effort. That goal is the holy grail for a lot of fashion designers. Nobody wants to look sloppy, and good casualwear does not equal sloppy. Consumers desire to look good but to have the clothes that get them there to be easy to wear. In their second Lincoln Center runway show, New York City’s own Timo Weiland took giant strides towards achieving that goal and capturing the prize of that being for what their brand is known.

Timo Weiland – Spring 2012 Review – Moving Onto The Runway

Timo Weiland’s Spring 2012 was in general a good collection but it had an uncharacteristic feel to it compared to their very sharp presentations of the past two seasons. There were many strong pieces and the team’s growth as designers surely continued, but the collection had a few pieces that felt flat and disconnected from the rest of the collection. An 60’s style baseball jacket and a men’s floral shirt and matching short both felt forced, and a small handful of other pieces lacked the original spark that has vaulted the young designers to their white hot status.

Timo Weiland – Designer Feature

“The three of us are going on about our creative choices every minute, about what works what doesn’t. We might even be working on another season and say this is great for next Fall or this is great for Spring.” The clothes that Timo Weiland, Alan Eckstein, and Donna Kang create strongly capture your attention whenever you see them, but it’s not always easy to pinpoint what has drawn your eye. Their distinctive designs are definitely a team effort.

Timo Weiland – Fall 2011

The Timo Weiland fall 2011 collection was an impressive step forward for the label’s designers Timo Weiland and Alan Eckstein. The cuts, details, and fabric treatments spoke to an increasing maturity and level of sophistication.

One of the great joys of being privileged to go to fashion shows season after season is the opportunity to watch talented designers grow as artists, to see them pare away what is superfluous or unnecessary and to grow stronger and stronger in their signature touches and their overall artistic self expression. The Timo Weiland fall 2011 collection was an impressive step forward for the label’s designers Timo Weiland and Alan Eckstein. Timo Weiland – Spring 2011 – New York

Visions of summers in the Baltic are what inspired the Spring 2011 collection for the Timo Weiland label.

What do Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia , and Sweden have in common? Have to grab your Google? You could just ask Alan Eckstein and Timo Weiland, they would tell you that all of those countries are lucky enough to border the beautiful Baltic Sea. Visions of summers in the Baltic are what inspired the Spring 2011 collection for the Timo Weiland label. The color palette of primarily reds, blues, grays, and blacks carried part of the feel home but it was a clever mixing of stripes and unique prints that really bore the message. Managing an inspiration can be difficult for designers. Too many references and the collection starts to feel forced and stale, too few and it will have no character. The proportion in this the label’s third collection was perfect. Just the right amount of mild nautical touches and some spellbinding Scandinavian prints and you could almost smell the sea and taste the fiskepudding. Timo Weiland – Fall 2010 Collection – New York

Though not as funky as the past, Edwardian themed season, fall with Timo Weiland is a demure, casual occasion, with a rich color palette and tailored luxury, free of gimmicks.

Every season Timo Weiland manages to edit towards a more and more refined look. Their chic easy wearing pieces are the epitome of that which is all the rage with the young in the city set.  The scene backstage at their presentation was one of the most calm and serene of any I’ve wandered through, and everyone seemed to have a friendly vibe, which easily translated to the way his clothes look on the models. Timo Weiland – Spring-Summer 2010 (Debut) Colection

This is a sophisticated collection that leaves you breathless and waiting for whatever Timo Weiland might think of next.

Timo Weiland  began 2009 with a successful line of neckwear and wallets. By fall, duo Alan Eckstein and Timo Weiland had dreamed up and designed a breakout  RTW collection, featured in WWD in September. The cover image, their silk chiffon tank top paired with cummerbund inspired silk charmeuse and chiffon skirt, epitomized the funky uptown/downtown vibe of the line and let the world know that they had arrived, with this debut at the 22nd Street non-profit Manhattan artspace X Initiative sealing the deal.
