There was a lightness and breath of breezy contentment to Nanette Lepore’s Fall 2011 collection. Creative and clever detailing provide a compelling complexity that once again points out, although Mrs. Lepore is justly famous for fun and frilly clothing, she is a serious thinker and designer. Each piece felt complete and fully realized. This season was laden with meaning for Nanette Lepore, as it was inspired by her late mother and in many ways felt as much of a celebration of her life as it did any sort of austere memorial.
“My mind was on angels and I wanted the collection to be very light, very ethereal.” Her color palette expressed her intentions wonderfully, mixing shimmering golds and silvers with refreshing prints, and of course white. As always with Mrs. Lepore, the collection was a complete expression of her client offering, separates, day dresses, and a touch of evening wear. For a designer who is famous for her flowing and light blouses and dresses, the standout pieces were oddly enough her sprinkling of outerwear. From tightly cut and strongly defined jackets to some very creative and detailed longer coats, Nanette Lepore’s Fall 2011 outerwear served as a strong reminder that though she makes joyful and fun clothing she’s a serious talent and has superior skills.
