NAHM – Fall 2012 Collection – Mellow Meets Mainstay

“Strength and power. And confidence. Strength, power, and confidence,” designer Alexandria Hilfiger shouted over the crowd when explaining the idea behind her and partner, Nary Manivong’s, Fall 2012 ready-to-wear collection. Relatively new to the scene, the petite duo escaped notoriety for their signature shirtdress and bared witness their many (hidden) talents. Collars on top of collars, dresses on top of shirts, and prints on top of prints revealed detail and contemplation amidst the buzz of color and layering presented in this third Nahm collection.

Nahm – Spring 2012 Review – A Beautiful Day

The modest yet romantic silhouettes of Nary Manivong and Ally Hilfiger’s NAHM Spring 2012 collection give a sense of sexy innocence. The presentation displays a palette of diverse moods that one may interpret as a journey of growth.

The modest yet romantic silhouettes of Nary Manivong and Ally Hilfiger’s NAHM Spring 2012 collection give a sense of sexy innocence. The presentation displays a palette of diverse moods that one may interpret as a journey of growth. The angelic white dresses embellished with delicate detailing, flowing to purposeful silk prints of a mixture of indigo and ruby, that set the stage for its long and commanding lines, then advancing to a place of enlightenment, baring soft canary print dresses with pops of tangerine, and finally uncovering an impression of wholeness with calm caramel tone basket-woven dresses with exaggerated bows placed at its neck lines. Nary Manivong – Spring 2011 – New York

Traditionally, spring is understood as a season of great renewal, a revival of spirits and a warming of temperaments, another chance to start anew. The collection presented by Nary Manivong for Spring 2011 is an excellent combination of the designer’s past reflections and present hopes: in Manivong’s case, a point to grow forward as well as a look towards his past. This harkening towards past and future presents itself as a cohesive, thoroughly wearable and elegantly youthful spring line.

Nary Manivong’s Fall 2010 collection continues his use of minimalist construction, this season with influences mainly from the 40s and 80s. His silhouettes are reminiscent of the 40s, with slim flattering feminine lines.

This choice helps to add a classical and more romantic touch, and balances his 80s references, which are mostly visible in the use of asymmetrical construction, abstract floral prints, and teased up-do hair. Nary Manivong’s spring-summer 2010 collection was all about bold colors and breezy looks. This Laotian-American designer, who originally showed in New York in the fall of 2005, continues his beautiful interpretations of easy looks and styles for the modern woman, with beautiful silks and a lot of exposed zippers for next season.
