The first two lines of The Drifters’ On Broadway are perhaps the best description for Isaac Mizrahi’s Spring 2010 collection, shown recently in The Tent at Bryant Park during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York.
They say the lights are always bright on Broadway.
They say there’s always magic in the air.

The runway was set as some large Broadway rehearsal space, with stage marks and additional spots set on the oversize runway. What Mizrahi sent down was an homage to all the great musicals that have graced the Broadway stages.
With hints to Grand Hotel, Guys and Dolls, All That Jazz, and many others, an inventive and creative collection took center stage. Each look that walked seemed to harken back to the glamour and world of the Broadway stage, right down to the instrument case style clutches and tuxedo jackets.
The piece that struck a chord with me most was a black ball gown. Something that one could envision some Broadway diva wearing back in the 30’s, when Broadway was in it’s Golden Age. Mizrahi had certainly made magic that evening.
