Karolina Zmarlak – Fall 2012 – El Matadora

Easily her best work to date, Karolina Zmarlak’s Fall 2012 collection is luxury and culture at its finest. Inspired by bullfighting matadors and the politics of Spain, Zmarlak created a collection that reflected well the vigor and depth of her inspiration. Her Spring 2012 collection referenced women under communism in Poland, further evidence Zmarlak does her homework. “Spain was in the position that Poland’s in now, about 20 years ago, so this collection is an homage to my business partner’s love for Spain, but also how I think their future will play out,” Zmarlak explained.

Karolina Zmarlak – Spring 2012 Review – Drawing From Source

If the fact that 90 percent of her pieces are convertible, affordable, and completely innovative isn’t convincing enough to dub this Polish designer a tailoring genius, maybe the fact that she combines chiffon with horsehair will put any confused resistance to rest. Karolina Zmarlak’s Spring 2012 collection is a look into her past, turning memories into clothing with the use of horsehair, structural jackets, and ethereal tunics. The creation of this collection served as an outlet for the designer to release all of the pent up creativity she couldn’t otherwise put to the drawing board during her childhood.

modaCYCLE recently hosted a showcase party for a group of emerging designers whom we believe showed the most promise during the most recent New York Fashion Week back in September. It was a chill vibe affair held in the beautiful Italian furniture showroom Natuzzi Soho (101 Greene Street). Each designer who participated showed three looks throughout the evening. Our intention was to put emerging designers with viable collections in the same room with boutique owners and buyers from retail chains, and it seemed to go quite well. Karolina Zmarlak – Spring 2011 – New York

Last season, Karolina Zmarlak presented a highly functional and dynamic collection of convertible pieces, which received a good deal of positive press for its wearability and subtle elegance. This season, her convertible concepts have evolved to more intricate layering, richer fabrics and paired separates.

There’s something very exciting and also undeniably economical sounding about “convertible clothing.” It’s also playfully futuristic in tone and usually Asian modern in appearance. Last season, Karolina Zmarlak presented a highly functional and dynamic collection of convertible pieces, which received a good deal of positive press for its wearable nature and subtle elegance. This season, her convertible concepts have evolved to more intricate layering, richer fabrics and paired separates. Continue reading “Karolina Zmarlak – Spring 2011 – New York”

Instant Apocalypse – A Photo Editorial

Civilization as we know it has fallen. 4 Times Square sheds glass in high winds as if it were molting, all that remains of The Champs-Élysées is overgrown weeds, and the streets around Piazza San Marco are explored only by bats hungry for mosquitoes. Yet fashion has marshaled on. Here preserved, seven images from the last box of instant film in the world.
