Venexiana – Fall 2012 – Kati’s Heavy Metal Lace Elegance

The most packed house I’ve ever seen in the Studio space in the tents at Lincoln Center created a charged atmosphere that awaited the Fall 2012 collection of designer Kati Stern’s label Venexiana. Stern stands out quite a bit from every other designer at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. She does things her own way and is utterly indifferent to any and every convention in fashion. Mrs. Stern is a lover of the excessive and the over the top, and her clothes mirror this attitude in every respect.

Venexiana – Designer Feature

Venexiana designer Kati Stern is a forthright woman with a handful of seemingly unrelated passions. Fashion designer, architect, classical pianist. Born in Budapest and influenced equally by Venice and the violent sounds at CBGB’s, her designs are red carpet classics but always it’s elegance with an edge.

Despite her punk rock passion and her love of the aggressive and theatrical Ms. Stern is very considered and calculated in her designs.

Venexiana’s designer Kati Stern is in her seventeenth season. She has a mistress’ hand at showmanship and knows how to play a crowd perfectly. But fashion shows aren’t for the crowd or even for us in the press, they’re for buyers. Pictures are nice, as are pretty words, but orders put food on the table. Venexiana’s Fall 2011 collection was a glittering array of dramatic gowns in luxurious satins, along with a parade of silks and metallics. Adornments of bows and strong swirls of fabric drew attention but never swallowed the woman, with the exception of the two closing white gowns which is what they were designed to do anyway. Venexiana – Fall 2010 Collection – New York

The delicate sheer and jeweled details in each of Kati Stern’s Fall 2010 gowns are camera ready for the bright lights of the Golden Globe and Academy Award red carpets. Beautiful floor sweeping pieces with peeks of skin – low cut backs, exposed shoulders – added the feminine touch. It is apparent that Stern’s modus operandi is outfitting a woman’s body for elegance.
