Badgley Mischka In The Forest

“What angel wakes me from my flowery bed?” asked Titiana in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. For Spring 2013, Mssrs. Badgley and Mishka gave us forty angels, faeries, and princesses in this show inspired by the pastoral frivolity of Shakespeare’s play. The fabulous English model Erin O’Connor commenced the enchantment, strutting languidly down the runway in a blush crepe jumpsuit, one of the few pants looks, and surely one of the least embellished. What followed was a charming range of pretty knee length dresses and skirts in brocade, chiffon, lace and organza, shot with gold and silver, several with the duos’ signature sweetheart neckline.

Badgley Mischka’s Heavenly Brides

The first gown out at Badgely Mischka’s fall 2013 Bridal show was named “Heavenly,” and celestial inspiration was abundant throughout the ethereal collection. The Mark Badgley and James Mischka design duo’s gift for enhancing classic silhouettes with intricate embellishment was tendered with a light and charming touch. Crystals and gold bouillon sparkled their way around waists, across bodices, and along panels, as if washed ashore by a glittering sea, or like stars revealed by passing clouds.

Badgley Mischka – Fall 2012 – That Sly Come Hither Stare

Mark Badgley & James Mischka’s creations have spent their fair share of time on Hollywood’s red carpets, but the instant their Fall 2012 runway show started, you knew this was all about Manhattan magic at midnight. A digitally enhanced video of the Gapstow Bridge in southern Central Park was given life with a three-dimensional effect of the moving shadows of trees. Snow fell behind the models as they whisked Badgley Mischka creations out of this winter oasis and down the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Theater runway.

Badgley Mischka Bride – Spring 2012 Review – Tomorrow’s Traditional Wedding

When I spoke to Mark Badgley and James Mischka moments before their Fall 2012 bridal collection was to flow down the runway yesterday, they spoke to me of the challenging restrictions that are placed on bridal design. After I saw the collection, I think they might have been having me on, because theirs was a very unrestricted, even uninhibited collection. The rules of the bridal market don’t inhibit these men, they push them to greatness. Innovation and experimentation abounded from reworking of traditional shapes to different variations on almost every conceivable type of structure and construction.

I recently had the opportunity to view the Spring 2010 Badgley Mischka Bride collection in the Badgley Mischka showroom during New York Bridal Market Week. After the show, I was able to ask designers Mark Badgley and James Mischka a few questions about their collection and recent shifts in the wedding fashion market. This show also included eight new bridal looks from their lower price point Mark & James line.
