Juan Carlos Obando Spring-Summer 2010 Collection

While many shows containing western elements may boil down to a show filled with just too whips, stirrup pants, and bow girls, Juan Carlos Obando knows how to work the style, taking in thoughts from sources disparate as Akira Kurosawa and Leone’s spaghetti dramas.

The Wild West is here! Beautiful dust-sprayed jackets and cotton fabrics, riding skirts, and hand made union gowns billowed down the runway as though it were some fashionable prairie. Each piece was thoughtfully created and wearable. While many shows containing western elements may boil down to a show filled with just too whips, stirrup pants, and bow girls, Juan Carlos Obando knows how to work the style, taking in thoughts from sources disparate as Akira Kurosawa and Leone’s spaghetti dramas. Bespoken Spring-Summer 2010 Collection

Exclusively designed and manufactured in London, the traditional English aesthetic was on display in the silhouettes and details of the collection. Originally all about the shirts, the label has now evolved into suits and especially into fitted jackets.

Mid-town Manhattan from on high was the backdrop as black and white film projections tickled the walls for the Bespoken spring-summer 2010 collection presentation. Exclusively designed and manufactured in London, the traditional English aesthetic was on display in the silhouettes and details of the collection. Originally all about the shirts, the label has now evolved into suits and especially into fitted jackets. The designers experimented with fabrics such as seersucker and wax cotton to give the traditional men’s suit a refreshing youthful edge. Continue reading “Bespoken Spring-Summer 2010 Collection”

General Idea Spring-Summer 2010 Collection

There was a bit of a wait for the start of the General Idea show, but it was actually nice to get cooled off and have a few minutes to scan the crowd and wave hellos. There were a lot of buyers in the audience and the international press came out in force. The wait and heat were no bother once the show started and the brilliant thread of thought designer Bum Suk Choi began expressing wit the Fall 2009 show was continued for Spring 2010 in lighter fabrications.

Ports 1961 Spring-Summer 2010 Collection

Tia Cibani is passionate about traveling, and the cities of the world through time inspire her collections. This collection was inspired by 1930’s Haute Couture and the islands of Japan. The line is flowing and comfortable, while still showing strong silhouettes. From the Japanese theme, there were a lot of very light fabrics that draped the body in a caresssing fashion.

Douglas Hannant Spring-Summer 2010 Collection

The collection of mostly dresses toyed with shape and form. Dresses were topped with fanned crumb catcher bodices, asymmetrical draping, and sweetheart necklines. Stand-out silhouettes were the refined bustled backs of the formal gowns, which added a touch of Edwardian extravagance.
