Moschino Men’s Goes A Little Bit 80’s for Spring 2010

Dip back into the early-’80s style file for men and you’ll find slim tight pants, burst colors, stripes, and mostly single color clothes, but every piece was worn matched with several other dissimilar pieces, which creating colorful match-ups and when done right sympathetic pattern jazz. It was the begining of pop fashion. John Travolta, the late Micheal Jackson, the hair metal bands, and even (in an Annie Hall gender bender way) Madonna all sported these looks.

Fratelli Rossetti Fall-Winter 2009

Fratelli Rossetti mixes leathers and blends leather with suede for yet another strong stylish line. Usually we try to report on innovation, but with this label, these pieces are all about craftsmanship. The company was started shortly after World War II and since its foundation has demonstrated a consistent application of their awareness of fashion history and contemporary style time and again in their new collections. This season is no different. These are some very nice shoes.

Versace Spring-Summer 2010 Collection at Milan Moda Uomo

Donatella Versace’s Spring-Summer 2010 mens collection featured simple chic shirts, loose long pants, and leather bracelets and bands on the wrists which matched the belts. Lots of long-sleeve earth color shirts with open button collars. Every outfit sent down the line was made of more or less matching pieces, so it was a bit like seeing a series of young millionaires’ uniforms paraded out, but not costumes per se. Overall a rather rugged appearance for summer.

Summer In Milano, Looks for Now

A few months ago I was in Milan and had the opportunity to shoot this fashion editorial in the Italian National Showroom of the Herman Miller furniture company. It features Herman Miller’s new Embody chair, which is the next generation of ergonomic office seating beyond their iconic Aeron. I love the spine on this thing, it’s such an interesting form. So are Jolita and Barbora in these fabulous summer looks.

Marcel Ostertag’s Desert Grace Spring-Summer 2010 Collection, Berlin

For Marcel Ostertag the cool understatement and purist inclinations that define German fashion are past. Beauty, glamor, and the grace of desert winds are for him, as shown in the striking synonyms that took center stage at the presentation. The Munich-based designer’s vision is based on impressions and feelings of desert life.

A Look At What’s New From Los Angeles

A few weeks ago, I was invited to check out a few smaller Los Angeles designers’ fall 2010 collections at the Agent Red International showroom on 39th Street here in New York, hosted by a PR group called The Gallery Los Angeles. Here are some of the things that stood out.

Frida Weyer – An Homage to Femininity, SS2010, Berlin

Frida Weyer presented her first solo collection in the historic Chamäleon Varieté Theatre, at the Hackesche Höfe, during the second day of Berlin Fashion Week. The former ballroom from the golden age of art nouveau, with its striking 1920’s charm, was a perfect stage for the dramatic new collection. The show was a history lesson packed into sweet girlish dresses, with its strong references to the diva looks of the 1920’s and 50’s. Weyer has immediately found her niche, with this high-end line of extravagant gowns.

Showing this remarkably coherent first collection, one wonders what the young designer could accomplish with an established house behind her.
