Caroline Seikaly Spring-Summer 2010 Collection

Inspired by a Balenciaga 1960s image, Seikaly aimed to make “pretty dresses for women,” and that she did, successfully, in this, her New York Fashion Week debut. Seikaly has presented fifteen looks as a Spring/Summer 2010 collection.

Albeit ironic, simplicity can be a difficult task to achieve. However, Caroline Seikaly captures the simplicity of women’s dresses elegantly. Continue reading “Caroline Seikaly Spring-Summer 2010 Collection”

On the Street – Fashion’s Finest

Mr. Abrams said he hopes New York’s Spring-Summer 2010 Fashion Week will show, “something new and fresh, bright; to get us out of the mood fashion and the country has been in.” He hopes it will, “spark an uptick in emotion.”

In a fabulous, entirely vintage, Gianni Versace outfit, Bryan Abrams was arguably the best dressed man out on the town for New York’s Fashion’s Night Out. Mr. Abrams came into the city just for the festivities, hanging out at the tents and watching The September Issue to “get in the mood” for the first of, hopefully, many more years of the fashion world’s new biggest party night. Monique Lhuillier Spring-Summer 2010 Collection

Buyers and press were greeted for the presentation of the Monique Lhuillier spring-summer 2010 collection inside the famed Christie’s auction house with champagne and decidedly upbeat music. The garments on display were a mix of long and short cocktail dresses, worn by tall models in charming panama hats. The looks were inspired, Lhuillier says, by “the intricate draping of the Masai Warriors.”

Mikhael Kale Spring-Summer 2010 Collection

Standing in the Audi center, with the Le Mans Audi R15 TDI 100 feet away, Mikhael told me, _when dealing with these hand embroidered details and construction, it is easy to be pretentious but that is not what this is about. It is about having fun with design and challenging oneself so if it is young, poppy, cool, and sexy, then we have succeeded._

It was the first day of New York Fashion Week, and designer Mikhael Kale went all-out creating a stunningly sexy and uniquely playful line. The dresses were very short and necklines were low, projecting a gladiator-bustier image. Continue reading “Mikhael Kale Spring-Summer 2010 Collection”

Straight from Babi Ahluwalia’s own lips, Sachin and Babi’s Spring-Summer 2010 collection is “effortless chic.”  Although the husband and wife duo are fairly new to the fashion design world, their names are already known to designers such as Escada, Oscar de la Renta and Vera Wang, all attuned to the husband and wife team’s established work with beautiful embroideries and impressive fabric finishes. Avedon Exhibition at The International Center of Photography

The International Center of Photography Gallery (ICP) is currently hosting an exhibition of Richard Avedon’s fashion images.

reportage by Charles Beckwith

The International Center of Photography Gallery (ICP) is currently hosting an exhibition of Richard Avedon’s fashion images.

I’ve found Avedon’s images fascinating for some time, but the way they were presented at the ICP, where some are poster-sized so you can really see all the details, and some, the images of night life, are hung in a black room with no ambient light but just tapered spotlights framing the photos, it was revelatory and inspiring. Dangerous Mathematicians – Designer Dossier

“For my ready to wear, I prefer cottons with a little stretch and a little sheen. Cotton sateen is my favorite. I like its hand, and its subtle sheen. It’s thick enough to hold you in, but flexible and soft enough to keep you mobile. For fancier custom work, I like silk taffetas, iridescent shantungs, jacquards and brocades. The jaquards and brocades give my shapes character. The iridescence and sheen of raw silk give my shapes brilliance. Colors and patterns can make a design beautiful. But they should never overtake the design, or the fit of a garment.”
