Timo Weiland  began 2009 with a successful line of neckwear and wallets. By fall, duo Alan Eckstein and Timo Weiland had dreamed up and designed a breakout  RTW collection, featured in WWD in September. The cover image, their silk chiffon tank top paired with cummerbund inspired silk charmeuse and chiffon skirt, epitomized the funky uptown/downtown vibe of the line and let the world know that they had arrived, with this debut at the 22nd Street non-profit Manhattan artspace X Initiative sealing the deal. The Harlem Fashion Row – Spring 2010 Collections

Operated by a collective dedicated to promoting Harlem’s enduring infuence and contibution to the fashion world, Fashion Row featured four lines, all from Harlem residents, including one by recent project Runway alum Epperson.

Shortly after New York Fashion Week, Harlem’s Fashion Row geared up to present collections by emerging designers at a fine arts venue in Harlem called The Gatehouse. Operated by a collective dedicated to promoting Harlem’s enduring influence and contribution to the fashion world, Fashion Row featured four lines, including one by recent Project Runway alum Epperson. Many fans of edgier fashion and conceptual art would have liked to have seen more of her in the series, but there appear to have been obtuse fashionistas blocking the driveway. Stella Contemporary Fashion Award 2009

Thursday November 12th, 2009 – the tenth annual Swiss Textiles Awards ceremony took place in Zurich. The event is produced by The Swiss Textile Federation, which is the leading trade association for textile producers in Switzerland, with about 200 companies counted in its membership. The finalists for the Stella Contemporary Fashion Award this year were Erdem, Alexis Mabille, Ohne Titel, Thakoon Panichgul, Peter Pilotto, and Alexander Wang. During the last ten years the award went through several conceptual changes, but it is now one of the most prestigious garment design awards in the world, as well as one of the most financially attractive competitions for rising star designers, with its 100.000€ (U.S. $150,000) prize. Loris Diran is a formidable rising force in fashion. Diran possess the spirit of a chess master; he is considered and thoughtful with an obviously tactical mind, but just under the surface is an aggression that is waiting to pounce. He has married a strong and very honed artistic aesthetic with a muscular business sense, he both thinks and feels his way forward.

Brooklyn Fashion Festival – Spring 2010 Collections

To be at the premier of anything is a special thrill. To be at a premier which contains not only the first night for the Brooklyn Fashion Festival but is also hosting the very first collections of many of Brooklyn’s most promising designers was a special treat. I was lucky enough to be backstage interviewing the designers and getting not only their take on their own collections but on fashion and design in general.
