Bespoken Spring-Summer 2010 Collection

Exclusively designed and manufactured in London, the traditional English aesthetic was on display in the silhouettes and details of the collection. Originally all about the shirts, the label has now evolved into suits and especially into fitted jackets.

Mid-town Manhattan from on high was the backdrop as black and white film projections tickled the walls for the Bespoken spring-summer 2010 collection presentation. Exclusively designed and manufactured in London, the traditional English aesthetic was on display in the silhouettes and details of the collection. Originally all about the shirts, the label has now evolved into suits and especially into fitted jackets. The designers experimented with fabrics such as seersucker and wax cotton to give the traditional men’s suit a refreshing youthful edge. Continue reading “Bespoken Spring-Summer 2010 Collection”

Copperwheat Spring-Summer 2010 Collection

The cabana setting and paper lantern lighting inspired a resort evening vibe for Copperwheat’s spring-summer 2010 collection atop the Maritime Hotel in Chelsea. The collection was nothing close to the dreariness of the threatening weather above, and the fusion of Lee Copperwheat’s tailoring and Ben Copperwheat’s pattern design was a matrimonial fusion of talent and craft. Impeccably tailored suits and casual separates lined the runway to a heavy bass beat.

Blanche DuMois Spring-Summer 2010 Collection

Alisha Trimble’s Blanche DuMois show, held in a dark nightclub on East Houston Street, about a block from the famous Katz’s Deli, was plainly both good and bad.

Caroline Seikaly Spring-Summer 2010 Collection

Inspired by a Balenciaga 1960s image, Seikaly aimed to make “pretty dresses for women,” and that she did, successfully, in this, her New York Fashion Week debut. Seikaly has presented fifteen looks as a Spring/Summer 2010 collection.

Albeit ironic, simplicity can be a difficult task to achieve. However, Caroline Seikaly captures the simplicity of women’s dresses elegantly. Continue reading “Caroline Seikaly Spring-Summer 2010 Collection”

Dangerous Mathematicians – Designer Dossier

“For my ready to wear, I prefer cottons with a little stretch and a little sheen. Cotton sateen is my favorite. I like its hand, and its subtle sheen. It’s thick enough to hold you in, but flexible and soft enough to keep you mobile. For fancier custom work, I like silk taffetas, iridescent shantungs, jacquards and brocades. The jaquards and brocades give my shapes character. The iridescence and sheen of raw silk give my shapes brilliance. Colors and patterns can make a design beautiful. But they should never overtake the design, or the fit of a garment.”

Marcel Ostertag’s Desert Grace Spring-Summer 2010 Collection, Berlin

For Marcel Ostertag the cool understatement and purist inclinations that define German fashion are past. Beauty, glamor, and the grace of desert winds are for him, as shown in the striking synonyms that took center stage at the presentation. The Munich-based designer’s vision is based on impressions and feelings of desert life.
